Internet Usage

1) I use the internet for general browsing of the internet, for example browsing facebook, watching videos on youtube. However the internet also allows me to play games online, and chat to my mates instantly online. In fact now a days i even use the internet to watch TV, as some times i forget to watch a show but now i can watch it whenever i want, even if it is only avaliable in other countries.

2) Blumer and Katz theory of Uses and Gratifications applys to me as i use the internet for escapism and entertainment, however i do not take everything to heart, so for example if a film i was watching had the message that all young people are evil, i would not believe it to be true. Which ties in to Pick 'n' Mix reader the theory from David Gauntlett tht we take what we want from the media texts we watch.

3) Music Video
Encoding Decoding - we had the preferred reading that the government is taking over our own views and twisting them, but a viewer may have a different reading, but may see where we are coming from and have a negotiated reading.

1. my main use for the internet is to watch television programmes or videos that i have missed. with the access of websites like 4od and bbc iplayer, i am able to watch television programmes when ever i want. as well as this, websites like youtube allow me to watch videos made by people that i have subsribed to or watch music videos by the bands i listen to. my internet usage also mostly revolves around my finding new music to listen to or see. i am able to do this on sites like youtube or programmes like Spotify. Spotify allows me to listen to almost any music that i want for free which has enabled me to listen to and discover new music.
As well as this, facebook allows everyone to communicate with all of their friends in a massive community of people.

2. i agree David Buckinghams theory of a creative audience very strongly as it has become more and more obvious with sites like youtube that the audience is now in a much stronger position to create their own media products and release them on to the internet for free and allow others to watch their creations. i feel that this is a good thing because as a result of this, new ideas and styles can grow due to 'ametures' recreating them. Stuart Hall suggests that we all view media texts in different ways which are preffered or dominant inwhich an audience views the texts in the way the producers wanted, negotiated readings inwhich the audience will debate with themselves on how they should feel

Internet usage

Over the last Decade the usage of the internet has increased greatly as new software has enabled more people across the world to access the internet. I have been using the internet more and more recently for Leisure purposes, communication with others and for college work also.
Social networking sites having grown in popularity recently, and i created a facebook account in year 8 and have been using it ever since. I think it benefits me as i can share my opinions and veiws by ether posting videos, status', or by liking different groups that others have created or pages of celebrities. With Facebook i am able to communicate with my friends online by talking on the 'chat'.

Internet Usage

I now use the internet in a number of different ways. I use it for internet banking, shopping, emailing, search engines in particular google and the social networking site Facebook. I use search engines regularly as it can now help you with anything, the search engine i use most regularly in Google. I have ad a facebook account for years, i use this as it makes it extremely easy to keep in contact with friends especially ones which now don't live in England and its main attraction is how you can share photos with your friends. More recently i have started using internet banking, this makes it more convenient to keep an eye on my current bank account balance.

Internet usage

I use the internet quite a lot throughout my week.  I use facebook to communicate with my friends and Twitter to

Activity 1

I use the Internet everyday for several different reasons.  I own 3 different e-mail accounts, one for personal use which Is a hotmail account, one for college use which is under the colleges own domain and one for my band which is with gmail.  I own a twitter account but I never use it. I own and facebook account and I also have a page on facebook for my band. My band also has a bandcamp account and a myspace account, both of which I use and update regularly. I regularly use the bbc website for finding out the news and the weather. The most frequently use the search engine Google to find websites that I want. I watch videos on youtube frequently for entertainment.

Stuart Halls encoding and decoding theory is relative to me through the films and tv that I watch. All films and tv comment on the social and cultural background of which either when the film is made or when it is set, and I may or may not agree with what the producer says. This can be seen in other media such as newspapers, book and magazines. Blumler & Katz, Uses and Gratifications Theory is not relevant as the films that i watch i watch as escapism, as a form of entertainment, i do not watch to compare with my life. David Guauntlett and the Pick 'n' Mix reader i can see as being relevant to other people as people do watch TV programmes and read magazines that tell you what to wear and how to live your life, i choose not to watch these programmes or read these magazines.

Internet usage

Over the past two decades, the internet has developed in progression with covergence of other media types. I have
When i use the internet i mainly use social networking sites, information sites and occaisnly use the internet for entertainment, these mainly refer to Facebook, IMDB and Youtube. I also use the internet for computer gaming, this only really applies to Xbox Live as i do not use a computer for internet gaming at all. Occasionaly i will use Itunes to download music as it is a legal way to do it.

I do not think that i am infulenced by the media, however this may be due to previous childhood experience that may have caused me to become decencortised to things that can be found on the internet.

Write 5oo words on your internet useage, include references to sites you use and what you use them for, groups you belong to peope you regularly communicate with.

The use of the Internet plays a large role in my life for many reasons. Firstly I use the Internet for general browsing and homework research sites included in this would be wikipedia and the BBC news home page as they can give me plenty of information and definitions which help with my work at home and at college. The second way I use the Internet is for socialising with friends on sites like facebook and apple email. I use these to communicate with other people by using facebook chat, writing on other people facebook pages and using the facebook email service. I use this to keep in contact with my close friends near by and around. Another site I use is Skype, which allows me to make free calls to friends and family abroad in American and New Zealand. The third way I use the Internet is for buying and selling my belongings on EBay and Amazon. These sites and many others allow me to buy products that I need like a new iphone case, which I would search for, and buy through Amazon. All the ways I use the Internet has a huge effect on how I run my life as it helps me to keep in contact with friends and family but also to buy products easily over the Internet.
Stuart Halls theory of ‘Encoding and Decoding’ relates a lot to how I use the Internet for example where he says about ‘preferred and dominant readings its reflects on how I use Amazon as it offers special deals and I read these and feel I should either look in to it as a great saver of money or just straight away buy the product on offer. Also when he mentions negotiated readings which relate to my use of the BBC news page as I am able to make my own opinion on the matters being reported on rather than being brainwashed ass proposed by older media theories on audiences.

My Internet usage

The websites that i use the most are facebook, google and youtube. I use facebook to catch up with and find out what friends are doing as many people are using it, so it makes sense for me to be using it aswell.
I find that out of all the search engines google is the best so that is the one i use as it comes up with the most relevant searches so it is easy to use.

Internet Usage

In this new digital age, everything is done online; banking, shopping and emails. Everything is done through search engines which make money of people searching the Internet using their engine. Companies like Google and Ask Jeeves. Another major usage of the Internet is through social networking. Being able to sharing photos, videos, and chat to friends all via the Internet has taken the world by storm in the last couple of years.

My normal Internet usage could be compared to the theory of David Buckingham about The Creative Audience. Buckingham believes it is essential to situate young peoples media use within the context of their other social activities and experiences due to the fact that many young people are using the media as a "wallpaper", a wall of noise to fill up "down time", or just to pass time due to boredom.
This is likely to sum up many young peoples experiences on the Internet that many of their interactions with the media on the Internet are not contrived, committed, or concentrated but fleeting, visceral and meaningless.
For example so when I use the internet, most of the time it is due to boredom. 9 times out of 10 I have nothing to actually do on the internet, so I simply browse the web looking at interesting things such as Facebook, checking my emails etc.

I can use apply the Theory of the Pix 'n' Mix Reader, where by I use texts and choose to ignore some aspects of them and choose the aspects that suit me at the time. The next time I would search, I may 'pick and mix' a different menu.
