The use of the Internet plays a large role in my life for many reasons. Firstly I use the Internet for general browsing and homework research sites included in this would be wikipedia and the BBC news home page as they can give me plenty of information and definitions which help with my work at home and at college. The second way I use the Internet is for socialising with friends on sites like facebook and apple email. I use these to communicate with other people by using facebook chat, writing on other people facebook pages and using the facebook email service. I use this to keep in contact with my close friends near by and around. Another site I use is Skype, which allows me to make free calls to friends and family abroad in American and New Zealand. The third way I use the Internet is for buying and selling my belongings on EBay and Amazon. These sites and many others allow me to buy products that I need like a new iphone case, which I would search for, and buy through Amazon. All the ways I use the Internet has a huge effect on how I run my life as it helps me to keep in contact with friends and family but also to buy products easily over the Internet.
Stuart Halls theory of ‘Encoding and Decoding’ relates a lot to how I use the Internet for example where he says about ‘preferred and dominant readings its reflects on how I use Amazon as it offers special deals and I read these and feel I should either look in to it as a great saver of money or just straight away buy the product on offer. Also when he mentions negotiated readings which relate to my use of the BBC news page as I am able to make my own opinion on the matters being reported on rather than being brainwashed ass proposed by older media theories on audiences.
